Actively promoting better voting systems

Hello Michael,

Beside the forum and the different polls that we created within the site, I'd like to create two sections which will have more permanent content. One section would be about the voting systems themselves, their merits, the criteria, etc. The second section would be about promotting those election methods: what can be done, what actions exist, etc.

I saw you got in touch with the Condorcet group (the Washington -?- State project). It's a shame the project is no longer very active, but this is the kind of information that we can put within this site. What do you think?

Can you give me all the links of similar projects that you know of, that we should talk about here?
What information can we provide?

A.

Actively promoting better voting systems

Augustin--

First, that's encouraging that Google is ranking us that well and sending people to us. I'd noticed that, as of now, 18 people have voted in the presidential poll, with Klucinich and Ron Paul far ahead of everyone else.

Absolutely--I'd like to have a section of the website for information about the voting systems and criteria for comparing them. This evening or tomorrow I'll begin posting about that.

Emocracy, with just three rating levels, is very close to Approval, and so it shares much of Approval's merit as a simple points rating system. Emocracy's inbetween rating was very useful to me, to distinguish candidates who advocate getting out of Iraq, and impeachment; candidates who just advocate getting out of Iraq; and candidates who advocate neither.

Anyway, I consider criteria to be essential for comparing the rank methods, and useful for comparing all voting systems.

Starting tonight or tomorrow, I intend to post about Approval, Emocracy, MPOA, MAPO, SSD, and BeatpathWinner, and their advantages and criteria compliances.

I'd better finish up before this computer turns its modem off again.

The Washington state Condorcet project is still alive; it's just that now, with Toby Nixon no longer in the legislature, it's necessary to find another sponsor. But he'll find one.

This site will be successful

This site will be successful only if it is the best in its topic.
If I manage to find the time to provide the best tools, and if we work together to provide the best information about EM, then people will start linking to us, and coming back for more.

I am happy we can work on this together.

Inviting people to vote.

Btw, the reason why 18 people voted so far, is because I have been posting the link to our polls on different forums I usually participate in. I remain on topic, so if on a particular forum, there is a discussion about Rudy Guliani, I use the opportunity to invite people to voice their opinion by voting here.
A few tried to votes several times in a row (stuffind the ballot box), but the software prevents them from doing so.

You can help me to get more votes in, by widely sharing the link on different forums, mailing lists, etc.
Invite people to vote: the more votes we have, the more people will be interested in the results.

Re: Inviting people to vote

Augustin--

I’ve been meaning to post to the alt.politics.elections newsgroup, to invite them to vote in the minguo presidential and voting system polls. I haven’t been there for about 12 years. I assume that now it’s accessible via the web. Since then, the EM mailing list, the Approval mailing list, and the Washington Condorcet mailing list have been the only places where I’ve done discussion.

When we get BeatpathWinner and Approval in the poll, I’ll invite members of the Washington Condorcet mailing list and the Approval mailing list to vote at minguo. As for the EM mailing list, they aren’t the people whom we need to poll about voting systems. They already have their opinions and biases. It’s much better to get the first impressions of people who are new to the subject. I’d invite the EM members to vote in the presidential poll, but I’ve found that they don’t participate in polls.

So I’ll be posting to alt.politics.elections about the polls. And to any other forums and groups I can find on the web who might be interested.

Mike

Ok.

Very good. :)
